Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do I have to signup?

We have struggled long and hard to figure out a way where you don't have to signup. The main challenge is the cost of creating images, we currently get charged a small amount per image. If people didn't have to signup, there is a risk that lots of people will use the website to create lots of images and won't order cards or other products, leading to a huge bill of us and no orders being placed to cover it. So instead we've tried to make it a bit more fun. Once you've signed up, you start with 10 free images, then every time you order an item, you get 5 additional images. Once you get to 50 images, this is the max you can have, but then you unlock the ability to delete images, with 5 deletes per order. As we at Ohaiyu use the website to send cards to our own friends and family, we've found it's lots of fun to curate a portfolio of images that suit our own styles. We've also got a surprise in store for people who have ordered 10 items and get to 50 images!

Q. How are the images created?

This is a great question and one I particularly enjoy answering, as it combines my love for art with my love for technology. I've always loved art, however there is one huge drawback... I never learnt how to draw properly and I now absolutely suck at it! I have loads of great ideas of things that I would love to see, but my hands just haven't learnt how to put that down on the canvas. This is where AI comes in. Over the past few years there's been some very bright sparks looking at how humans learn stuff, and they've managed to boil it all down to some very complicated Maths, which can run on a computer. All they have to do is show the computer lots of digital images, and say this is a horse, this is a cat. And each time it gets shown an image it learns how to recreate it. Computers are incredibly fast at maths and they have practiced drawing litterly billions of images. It's got to the point where you can now say "draw me an image of a horse riding a bike". And hey presto! A horse on a bike. And that it pretty much it... a very fast computer that has been shown billions of images and some very funky maths. All it needs is your creativity in the words you give it.

Q. How do you get the best out of creating images?

We've had so much fun creating images whilst we've been putting Ohaiyu together and we've found some things work better than others. The biggest thing we've learnt is that having a set image in your head, then trying to recreate it usually ends up with disappointment. What works better is if you have a feeling or emotion you want to convey. Prompting the AI with words that describe a feeling seems to create better results. For example "love for my soulmate". Another thing we've really enjoyed playing around with is contrast or juxtaposition, for example "a cartoon horse riding a bike" or "surfing on the moon", just any crazy random thoughts, the more far fetched, the more fun you can have. Which brings us on to the final piece of advice, which is playing around with single word prompts or short phrases, for example "juxtaposition" or "the final flight of love". The main thing is to have fun, create images, a share your creations with friends and loved ones.

Q. How do you handle diversity in the creation of images

The world has an incredibly diverse, rich and fun culture. We see people celebrating and sharing their diversity in every corner of the globe. And we hope Ohaiyu can be part of that sharing. The challenge is how images are created from a specific set of words. If you ask for a "group of friends" five times, you will get five different sets of faces, some will feel diverse, some will feel less diverse. With so much diversity in the world the chances of getting an image which looks just like your social group is actually quiet low, our advice would to be to explore how to engineer the prompt to get the results you want. Alternatively explore images that portray the same emotion in a different way. Either way, we want to celebrate your diversity with you and hope you will find a way send some love ❤️

Q. What controls are in place to prevent inappropriate images being created?

This is something we take extremely serious, and have taken steps to ensure inappropriate content is not created. If you try to create inappropriate content, the website will let you know that it's unable to create the image and a flag will be placed on your account. If you continue trying to create inappropriate content you will be banned from using the website and in extreme cases, will be reported to authorities.

Q. How long do orders take to print?

We recommend allowing at least 7 days for printing and shipping.

Q. What do the various shipping methods mean?

There are four shipping methods: Budget, Standard, Express and Overnight.

We have four different shipping options; each increasing in price and speed:

Budget shipping has slower delivery times than standard shipping and is typically sent using an untracked service (although all US orders are tracked). Standard shipping may be tracked or untracked for most print on demand products, depending on destination.

Express shipping is typically with a courier, will be tracked and will be a fast, premium service.

Overnight is only available in the UK & USA with certain labs.

We attempt to have at least budget and standard shipping options available for all products.

PLEASE NOTE: Overnight and Express reflect the shipping method. Printing may still take 7 days.

Q. Can I cancel my order?

To ensure a speedy service, orders are automatically sent to the printers as soon as they are placed. As all orders are unique and personal, we are unable to cancel orders. Please double check all details before checkout.

Q. Will you be adding more items, such as printing on canvases, tote bags, etc.

Yes, we are constantly working with our global network of printers to bring more products to the store.

Q. Do you store any customer data?

Yes, we store only enough to fulfil the orders. Our policies can be found here.

Q. Do you store any payments data?

All payments processing is completed by Stripe, an industry standard payments processor. They handle all the processing, which means we have no requirement to store any payment information. More Info at stripe.com.
